After anticipated reveals for FPS games like Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty Blak Ops 7, Hell Let Loose is back with a new installment called Hell Let Loose Vietnam. This massive 50 v 50 military simulation game was finally announced at the Future Games Show at Gamescom 2025 on August 20, 2025. HLL Vietnam is currently being developed under Expression Games and will be published by Team 17 in 2026 for consoles and PC. Being developed on Unreal Engine 5, HLL Vietnam promises to deliver realistic combat gameplay with new modes, maps, and more. Let’s explore more about Hell Let Loose Vietnam below.
Is Hell Let Loose Vietnam a DLC?
The first thing to know about Hell Let Loose Vietnam is that it’s not a DLC. Many HLL fans and others have questioned and been confused about whether it is an expansion or a sequel. Hell Let Loose Vietnam is a standalone adventure in the franchise and is being built from scratch on Unreal Engine 5. Bringing an entirely new code base, gameplay system, and audio-visual overhauls.
About Hell Let Loose Vietnam
Hell Let Loose Vietnam drops players during the years of the Vietnam War, between 1965 and 1973. Specifically, during the conflict between the United States Armed Forces and the North Vietnamese Army. Fans can expect massive 50 v 50 battles, immersive realism, and tactical intensity that the series is known for. But it is reimagined for an entirely different kind of battlefield. For example, it features dense jungles, tight tunnels, hills, rivers, and more. This isn’t just a reskin of Hell Let Loose, it’s a full-on transformation.

If you have played HLL before, then you know that the map design has always had a cinematic edge to it, and Vietnam is going to push that to the next level. Best of all, the developers are not scaling it down to I’m also relieved that they’re not scaling this thing down to match the COD TDM casuals. And unlike Battlefield 6, this is full-scale, full scope, and exactly how the way it should be.
HLL vs HLL Vietnam: What Carries Over
Besides a different setting and development engine, there are many new things that Hell Let Loose Vietnam offers. This includes a revamped tutorial and player onboarding, updated interface, and user experience, new vehicles, roles, maps, and more. Let’s break them down below.
New Modes: There will be six different game modes, including classic warfare, tug-of-war, offensive, attack, and defense, plus additional alternative modes for variety.
New Vehicles: Introduction of pilotable helicopters, patrol boats (including PBR boats with mounted weapons), and new vehicle types like SPAs planned later. Boats and helicopters bring new combat dynamics to river and jungle terrain.
New Maps: Six unique maps inspired by historic Vietnam War battles, including dense jungles, rice paddies, hills, and beaches. Maps are based on real operations like Operation Starlite and Operation Piranha, offering varied environments..
New Gameplay Features: Incorporation of tunnels used by the Viet Cong for rapid troop deployment and surprise attacks, adding a unique layer of strategy not in the original game.
Core mechanics returning: Squad/platoon organization, reliance on voice comms, logistics chains, and spawn-building systems carry over in evolved form.
No single-player campaign: The game is focused entirely on large-scale multiplayer, and it is confirmed that there will be no single-player campaign at launch.
New asymmetry pillars: Helicopters for US mobility and logistics versus player-built tunnel networks for NVA redeployments and ambushes, altering how fronts form and collapse.
These additions create a distinct Vietnam War setting while keeping the tactical, large-scale team play core to the Hell Let Loose experience. The new game supports air, water, armor, and infantry combined arms combat rooted in historical authenticity. This sets it apart from the original World War II-based Hell Let Loose and promises a fresh, immersive experience.
Distinct battle roles across 6 battlefield units
HLL Vietnam offers 19 distinct battle roles. These Include:
- Command: Commander
- Infantry: Officer, Rifleman, Assault, Medic, Support, Machine Gunner, Anti-Tank, Engineer
- Recon: Spotter, Sniper.
- Armour: Tank Commander, Crewman.
- Helicopter (US only): Pilot, Crewman, Gunner.
- Mortar Squad: Spotter, Support, Gunner.
Is Hell Let Loose Vietnam Crossplay?
At launch, cross-play between PC and consoles won’t be available for HLL Vietnam. However, players can still team up within the same platform type. This means all PC players, using any storefront, will be able to play together. Similarly, console players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S can join the same matches. So, while PC and console players can’t battle each other just yet, they can enjoy cross-play with others on their own platform family.
