The highly anticipated Ghost of Yotei gameplay deep dive finally premiered yesterday. Developed by Sucker Punch, Ghost of Yotei is the standalone sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, which was released on 17 July 2025. It’s an action-adventure game set 300 years after the events of its prequel in Ezo, now known as Hokkaido. The gameplay reveal showcased new weapons, new ways to customize your journey along the edge of Japan, new special modes, and much more. Let’s take a closer look at the new weapons in Ghost of Yotei.
Ghost Of Yotei Weapons
Ghost of Yotei tells the story of a warrior. It’s a standalone experience set in rural Japan of the 1600s. It follows Atsu’s revenge story; her family was killed by a gang called Yotei six when she was a child. She returns sixteen years later and travels through the beautiful, rugged landscapes of northern Japan, hunting those who murdered her family. Her journey comprises unlikely allies and stronger bonds than she could have imagined.
Ghost of Tsushima featured weapons like katana, tanto, bows, daggers, and others, focusing mainly on samurai duels. In Ghost of Yotei, combat has evolved significantly, with less emphasis on ghost or samurai skills. Based on what’s shown in the gameplay reveal, combat stances have been replaced by wielding different weapons.

Weapons
New weapons in Ghost of Yotei include:
- Katana: The main weapon. A sharp, fast sword ideal for close combat and one-on-one duels. Balances offense and defense.
- Spear: Offers extended reach to keep enemies at bay and attack swiftly. Useful for crowd control and piercing defenses.
- Kusarigama: A chain and sickle weapon perfect for pulling enemies close and hitting them quickly.Great for unbalancing foes.
- Odachi: A large, heavy sword best suited for big or powerful enemies. Deals heavy damage but swings slower.
- Dual Swords: Two quick blades are ideal for rapid attacks and facing enemies with spears. Perfect for aggressive, fast-paced combat.
- Kunai: Small throwing knives that can stun or harm enemies from a short distance. Great for disrupting attacks or finishing off weakened foes.

- Blinding Powder: Timing is everything. It can slow enemies down, giving you a chance to strike or escape.
- Bow and Arrow: You can use these in silent, long-range attacks and take down enemies from afar. Best for stealth and picking off enemies before a fight begins.
- Musket: A gun that can take down enemies in one shot from a long distance. Good for clearing out strong targets quickly.
These weapons will aid Atsu on her quest for revenge. As you progress through the story and different modes, you will find and learn to use each new weapon. Alongside weapons, you will discover new allies such as a wolf, and unlock new skills like unblockable strikes and disarming enemies during combat.
Ghost of Yotei Release Date
Embark on your new adventure in Ghost of Yotei starting October 2, 2025. With new weapons and combat mechanics, it promises to feel like a classic samurai film. Even better, PlayStation is launching a Ghost of Yotei PS5 limited edition console, which includes the game, a controller, and pre-order content.
