Ghost of Tsushima 2 Revealed By Sucker Punch at Sony’s State of Play

It is here folks, The long-awaited sequel Ghost of Tsushima 2, or can we now say, another entry into Sucker Punch’s Ghost Franchise with the reveal of Ghost of Yotei. The game was revealed at Sony’s State of Play Event on September 24. Being the secondary entry to the series. With a brand new location, setting, and coming as a shocker, a new female protagonist. Let’s take a look at its release date, features, and more.

Ghost of Yotei Reveal

Ghost of Yotei was revealed at the Sony State of Play Event yesterday, September 24th, 2024, alongside other major titles. It was revealed by a three-minute announcement trailer that showcased many aspects of the game, such as the game’s new setting and location: Mount Yotei in 1603, Japan’s Northernmost Hokkaido region. The game also features a brand new female protagonist, Atsu, who moves away from Ghost of Tsushima’s Jin Sakai.

The trailer also showcased the narrative and story of the game, which has a major time jump. The net entry is set in 1603, while Ghost of Tsushima was set in 1274 during the first Mongol invasion of Japan. The new protagonist, Atsu, comes as a shocker to many, and this time around, she is a fierce female.

Story & Setting

Ghost of Yotei is set 300 years after the original game, in 1603, near the Mount Yotei region in the northernmost region of Japan. The story will follow Atsu in this non-governed region of Japan filled with rogue ronins and exiled samurai, all looking to escape their past in the semi-lawless land. Yotei will provide the players with a much different feel than the Island of Tsushima, known for its Samurai Clans and the discipline that followed the Samurai code.

The game is much more visually stunning, with improvements to the graphics and benchmarking of the game for the PlayStation 5. Sucker Punch also confirmed this is their first-ever title built from the ground up for the PlayStation 5.

New Features in the Trailer

While the trailer wasn’t a full-blown presentation of the game, it showed snippets of the game’s combat and some new weapons. Atsu seems pretty akin to using the Katana, but the trailer showcased her with traditional Japanese weapons like the Kusarigama, a Japanese nunchuck with a blade attached to it ( yeah, that’s a literal weapon that was used back then).

Another surprising addition is shown at the end of the trailer, where Atsu is seen wielding and firing a firearm. The game is set in 1603, a leap of 300 years from the last entry, and firearms seemed like the right choice to evolve the game’s exciting new mechanics.

Release Date & Platforms

No release date has been announced for Ghost of Yotei yet, but the game is set to hit shelves and marketplaces worldwide in 2025. Ghost of Yotei will most probably be a console exclusive to the PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation 5 Pro, with a later release on PC, similar to the release of Ghost of Tsushima . Players are excited about the apparent Ghost of Tsushima 2, and the trailer has been well-received by fans and critics alike. While players wait for Ghost of Yotei, they can enjoy Ghost of Tsushima and its massive Iki Island expansion right here on Driffle
