In the C-tier, we have the truly ‘average’ Genshin Impact characters. This tier houses retired maniacs who were once considered a powerhouse but now rarely get to see action. This is most likely due to a combination of a variety of factors such as lower base rarity, recent nerfs, or balance changes. It’s also because they are simply not that useful, and have better alternatives. Still, if you have them, you can still get good utility from it, especially as a new player.

This tier houses the worst Genshin Impact characters. They are not useful in the current meta, and continue to elude many player’s teams due to simply being weak. It is also because many players got them in the beginning of their journey, and replaced them later down the line. You can grab them easily, thanks to their mass accessibility. But, just remember, you will be playing Genshin Impact on the hardest difficulty with them.

Genshin Impact Character Roles Explained

It’s imperative that you know about the different roles that need to be fulfilled by Genshin Impact characters. This knowledge will help you curate and create some of the best Genshin Impact teams. Since the game is quite old at this point, many of the strongest characters are now not available.

Yet, you can still find them in many teams as they are made available over the years. Enough with that, check out all the Genshin Impact character roles:

  • On-Field: These characters fulfill the role of being on the field for all the action. They have strong active abilities and can land amazing debuffs on enemies. Make sure to use them on-field to get the best utilization of their power.
  • Off-Field: Opposite to the on-field characters, these off-field characters perform the best when they are not present during the action. They are experts at providing aid from a distance, without the need to be present on the field. Make sure to pick them in case of fulfilling certain challenges.
  • DPS: Damage is something you will never get tired of in Genshin Impact. And, these DPS characters are the pivoting point for users to deal more damage. They come in differing elements, and rarities, like any other character. Make sure to utilize them in your teams to reach higher ranks in challenges.
  • Support: As the name suggests, Supports are your tried and tested characters that provide assistance to allies. This assistance comes in the form of buffs, heals, and shields. They can also help cast important debuffs to bog down the enemy and render them useless. You must have some Support in the team to keep the flow of combat in your favour.
  • Survivability: Consider these the Tanks of Genshin Impact. You can try to use 1 of them at least in the team. They are adept at absorbing damage, thanks to their higher defense and large pools of HP. Some of the tanks can even double down as supports and provide additional utility to the team.

Genshin Impact Tier List Factors

Like we mentioned before, GI is an old game, and we barely had the time to rank each individual character while forming our Genshin Impact tier list. It has a vast database of 100+ unique characters. To simplify things, we took into account the basic factors that aided in creation of this tier list. These factors were as follows:

  • Rarity – One thing that the developers themselves use to differentiate the characters is rarity. Yes, all characters come in differing rarities. The higher the base rarity, the better their base stats, and the stronger they are considered. We took this principle in mind when forming our tier list
  • Role Value – Since there are multiple characters for each role, we thought of ranking the better characters in the role at the top. Hence, you will find the stronger characters at the top of the tiers among all roles.
  • Usability in Different Modes – Each Genshin Impact character performs differently in different game modes. Some might be good in one while struggling in another. Hence, we decided to create a middle ground for all these characters’ performances, and averaged them out. This determined that the top of the cream characters were good in the majority of the game modes.
  • Community Rankings – We also took into account the differing opinions of the community when building our Genshin Impact tier list. This opinion came in the form of several community rankings on discord, reddit, and more avenues.
