Good news for all the Elden Ring veteran players. After all the rumors, leaks, and speculations, Elden Ring Nightreign Deep of Night Mode is finally coming to the game in the second week of September. It’s been three months since Elden Ring Nightreign’s official release on 31 May, 2025. And this open-world adventure delivered nothing short of what was expected from it. It also received updates and patch notes after the launch, but there are a few things that it missed out on.

For instance, at launch, Elden Ring Nightreign multiplayer did not have the voice chat feature, and still doesn’t. Additionally, according to players’ reviews, the final and other boss fights were easy; thus, it didn’t feel rewarding. And the developers noted that and have finally announced Elden Ring Nightreign Deep of Night Mode. Let’s explore more about it below and see what it brings to the table.
Elden Ring Nightreign Deep of Night Mode
The brand new mode, Deep of Night, for Elden Ring Nightreign is finally confirmed by the developers, FromSoftware, and the publishers Bandai Namco Entertainment. It is a new ultra-hard challenge mode for veteran players, designed to significantly increase difficulty with tougher enemies, unpredictable bosses, and unique rewards.
Deep of Night Mode is a special expedition that will introduce a layered descent system, with each ‘depth’ getting progressively harder. Players can expect to face stronger, more intelligent enemies and can no longer choose which Nightlord boss or terrain (Shifting Earth) they encounter.

Furthermore, the challenge will scale through five depth levels, with the final levels, Depth 4 and 5, offering ‘endless battle’ runs meant to test endurance and skill, providing more thrill. The developers explicitly stated: “Deep of Night is a high-difficulty mode that provides a thrilling and challenging adventure. We encourage you to try and see if you can surpass Depth 3. Depths 4 to 5 will feature an endless battle for those seeking even greater thrills.”
Deep of Night Mode Features
- Higher Difficulty: All enemies throughout Limveld are stronger, with new types of mutated foes introduced.
- Randomized Challenges: Players cannot pick specific bosses or predict changing environments in the Deep of Night mode, making adaptability essential.
- Depth Tier System: Difficulty and enemy scaling increase with each depth. Depths 4 and 5 are designed to be endless survival modes, and a win/loss rating determines progression or regression in depth.
- Skill-Based Matchmaking: Rumored ELO integration may ensure competitive runs with others of similar experience. (This is not officially confirmed yet)
- Atmosphere: The game’s ambiance becomes darker and more foreboding to match the heightened stakes.
Rewards and Exclusives
- Depths Relics: Powerful new relics exclusive to Deep of Night, offering bigger buffs but also potential drawbacks (e.g., higher attack, but continuous HP loss).
- Special Weapons: Unique weapon drops with extra effects, many beneficial but some with debuffs or strategic tradeoffs.
- Additional Relic Slots: Leaked details hint that Deep of Night may let players use three extra relic slots, for up to six total, but only during this mode.
- Ranking and Progression: Victories in Deep of Night mode let players descend into deeper, more challenging depths, while losses can move players back to easier levels
Deep of Night Mode Is Already Being Loved
Although the Elden Ring Nightreign Deep of Night mode is not even out yet, players are saying that this is exactly what the game needs. Many said this also extends the life of the game. One Reddit user commented: “I absolutely love NR, but my biggest gripe with it atm is that the expedition phase has become far too optimized and easy. You rarely die before the Nightlord, and there’s rarely any ‘holy s*** that was close!’ moments during the expedition itself. It hurts the replay value IMO when basically 40 out of the 50 minutes of each run feels like there’s no friction.”
Adding to it, “Granted, it took me 200 hours of playtime to reach this point, so I’m not saying it’s a knock against the game itself. But it IS the biggest possible improvement the game can make at this stage for my personal playtime, giving something that’s genuinely hard for experienced players instead of just the one boss at the end.”
Others also added similar things, meaning only one thing: they love the Elden Ring Nightreign’s new Deep of Night Mode. And as this mode is ready to roll out, players are also expecting a new Nightreign DLC by the end of this year. And fans are speculating for new night lords, night farers, new weapon types, and more.
Elden Ring Nightreign Deep of Night Mode Release Date
Elden Ring Nightreign Deep of Night mode will be available in the game from 11 September 2025. Introducing a high-difficulty expedition, this new mode is only for veteran Elden Ring players. With exclusive rewards and new weapon types, it will release on all the respective platforms on which the game is available. These include: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
