EA Announces New Battlefield; Fans Demand Better Delivery

After the debacle of Battlefield 2042, EA has announced the new entry in the Battlefield series at its annual earnings call. EA’s CEO Andrew Wilson gave a brief update on the new title being “one of the most ambitious projects in our history”. Loyal fans of the series have demanded that EA better deliver this time as the franchise is on its final stretch and this new title will either make or break the series.

Overview

EA recently held its Earning call where EA’s CEO Andrew Wilson acknowledged the importance of the series to the developers and fans alike, with a combined player base of 25 million players over the last 12 months, and announced a new Battlefield game to be in the works. The series stays relevant in the eyes of its loyal fans and avid gamers, with Multiple battlefield titles being smash hits like Battlefield 3 & 4 and the very critically acclaimed Battlefield 1. The series took a turn for the worse after the release of BF5 in 2018, which was heavily bombed for its portrayal of the Second World War. BF5 was supposed to be a live service game but was abandoned only after a few months of its initial release with negative feedback and EA pulling back their resources for newer titles and the next game in the series, which was Battlefield 2042 (This did not turn out great at all).

Andrew Wilson’s statement

With several other things Andrew Wilson mentioned the game 5 times in his address, He said: “Players continue to be passionate about the Battlefield franchise, which has surpassed 25 million players over the last 12 months.”

“The community is energised by what our teams are doing and excited for what comes next. This is not just one of our top priorities, it is also one of the most ambitious projects in our history.”

“We have brought together the very best team coupled with the resources and technology they need to deliver an epic Battlefield experience.”

Fan Response

The Reddit community responded with frustration, saying, “You better deliver something good this time or the franchise is finished.” Garnering over 5,000 likes and more than 1,000 comments, fans expressed their concerns. Despite this, the franchise remains beloved, with many gamers returning to older titles like BF 1 and 4.

Battlefield fans are among the most loyal and dedicated in the gaming world. The community is highly active, with content creators continuously defending and advocating for their beloved franchise. This passionate fanbase consistently engages with the game, creating content and rallying support, ensuring that the series remains a prominent fixture in the gaming landscape.

Our Thoughts

EA has always aimed for the sky with their “Most Ambitious” projects but not walking the walk with recent examples like Battlefield 5 and Battlefield 2042. We can only hope for a revival of the franchise as older titles like Battlefield 3, 4, and Hardline will be going offline by the end of 2024. The Franchise is loved by many and an end to the series will be disheartening for a lot of gamers across the world.
