It’s out, folks, the visual update for Dying Light 1 is finally here. Techland, after 6 months, has finally revealed the brand new changes coming to the original Dying Light, with new visual tweaks and a revamped sound design. Dying Light 1 Update

It’s an Enhancement, not a Remaster!

To clear things off, as stated on Dying Light’s 10th Anniversary. The devs have reaffirmed that the Dying Light 1 Update is a visual and sound tweak, not a full-blown remaster. This Retouched update is focused on squeezing every inch of potential from the original horror survival game. That being visuals tweaks to in-game environments, assets, and a few lighting changes.

But the biggest change is to Dying Light 1’s sound design and immersive soundtrack. The original composer, Paweł Blaszczak, has remastered the entire original track for the game. Using the original format by re-recording straight to tape, this brings back the authenticity. Creating the original feel and the same immersive soundscape with the addition of new tracks and ambient sounds.

Gamers who have played the original will know, even a decade later, Dying Light is still visually very impressive. But with the new Visual Retouched update, things are about to get much sharper than ever before. The Tech Director, Grzegorz Świstowski, and Lead 3D Artist Krzysztof Knefel explained how this feat was achieved.

By working their way around the same engine upon which Dying Light was built, Techland’s in-house Chrome Engine. The devs tweaked the multiple in-game textures manually from wooden surfaces, metal sheets, to stone pavements. They enhanced existing textures, added PBR tweaks, boosted LOD settings, and improved the overall lighting.

The tweaks make Harran much more immersive than before and truly bring out the survival horror feel of the city. Everything now has a pop to it with added depth, realism, and 8K Ultra shadows.

Remastered Sound Design

The Biggest change is by far to the game’s sound design. Techland reached out the the original composer of the game, Paweł Blaszczak, to redo the entire soundtrack. And that he did, while keeping the same authentic music and feel, by remastering the track on tape. To date, Dying Light 1 Soundtrack holds up pretty well, with many beloved tracks like Horizon, Harran, and Passage being fan favourites.

Plus, all the hit reaction sounds in the game are now enhanced to next-gen levels. Every swing of a bat or a sharp blade’s thrusting into a zombie will feel more real and satisfying.
