Disney Epic Mickey Rebrushed Review: A Magical Makeover

Ready to join Mickey on his magical journey? After Disney Epic Mickey Rebrushed was released on 24th September, 2024, gamers are just going crazy for this cute remake. Once again, Mickey’s iconic character is here with his paintbrush and thinner to journey across the wasteland and restore its beauty. If you plan to play this game, this Disney Epic Mickey Rebrushed Review will help you choose wisely.

I Really Loved the Storyline

Well, I really like the game’s storyline. Although it’s the same as in the original game, it keeps you engaged. Mickey Mouse is drawn to Yen Sid’s workshop through a mirror, where he finds the sorcerer creating a world for forgotten Disney characters with a magic paintbrush. Mickey tries to paint his self-portrait but accidentally creates the evil Shadow Blot. Panicked, he uses thinner to clean up the mess but leaves before Yen Sid notices, turning the world into a wasteland.

After many years, the Shadow Blot, who survived Mickey’s mistake, kidnaps and drags him back to Wasteland. There, Mickey meets Oswald, the Lucky Rabbit, who is jealous of Mickey’s fame. Together, they work to overthrow the Shadow Blot and restore Wasteland.

What’s New in Epic Mickey Rebrushed

Disney Epic Mickey Rebrushed follows the original storyline. What has changed are the improved aesthetics and revamped visuals, which enhance the overall gameplay. It has:

  • Older Disney Characters
  • 2D and 3D Classic Platforming
  • Collectible Concept Art, Video Clips, and Other Gallery Items
  • Enhanced Graphics
  • Improved Controls
  • Quality of Life Additions

Disney Epic Mickey Rebrushed Gameplay

Man, the gameplay has improved so much. The setting seems familiar, but it’s all refined. You’ll be exploring the Wasteland with your magic paintbrush as your primary weapon to restore the beauty of your surroundings. And it’s much more fun than it sounds! The storytelling is deep, and you gotta make some intense choices to unfold the plot. The game has multiple endings, and every choice you make shapes the story, deciding the consequences.

The Paint and Thinner System

You’ll love this system in Disney Epic Mickey Rebrushed, which offers a moral choice where you can either destroy or befriend most enemies and bosses. Blue paint restores the world, while green thinner breaks things down and erases them. Your decisions affect the story, the ending, and more minor details like the soundtracks or how much your character resembles The Blot’s dripping ink. This also helps you learn more about yourself, like your choices and your conscience.

The Forgotten Characters

Mickey gradually uncovers the dark, sad reality of Wasteland, where all the forgotten and discarded Disney characters live. Personally, that is very disheartening to witness. Oswald the Rabbit, being the most prominent character, plays his role in the storyline; though his character develops the depth of the plot, it also highlights Mickey’s journey as a hero.

Mickey has Evolved A Lot

Our lovely Mickey has now evolved! Along with the revamped visuals, Mickey has become more agile. Mickey can now dash and sprint like a pro. You will not only enjoy how cute Mickey is but also his new movements and amazing stunts. All these additions just make the Epic Mickey Rebrushed Gameplay cooler and better.

Mickey’s Travels

As Mickey can now dash and sprint, he is much more agile and quick. He’s like Mickey 2.0! You’ll race through sewer slums, rundown theme parks with shaky rides, crumbling ruins, fire-damaged towns, and pirate-filled islands. The action moves quickly, with each area offering simple yet engaging puzzles to solve along the way.

Side Quests

You’ll see a section for quests in the main menu in Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed. That includes main, side, completed, and failed quests. You only need to complete the main quests to move forward in the story, but side quests are also important.

Most side quests reward you with collectibles, while some give valuable items like Power Sparks after you pass Mean Street. Keep in mind that you might not be able to return to a quest’s area later, so it’s best to finish them when you can.

Level Designs

According to me, the level design is incredibly charming, proving once again why it’s one of the best Disney games out there. The platforming feels super satisfying, and the game encourages you to explore by offering collectible films. Collect enough, and you can watch different cartoons at the Mean Street Theater, which is a great bonus. Besides the 2D platforming through projector screens, you’ll also enjoy fun 3D platforming in the main areas, often needing to get creative with your brush to find your path.

Summary

My thoughts on Disney Epic Mickey Rebrushed? It’s actually a good remake with all the revamps on point. The characters, the environments, the fluid gameplay, and everything else are done accurately by the developer, Purple Lamp. The magic paintbrush and thinner are really fun to try out, as are rescuing the lost Disney characters. Now, I give it a thumbs up through my Disney Epic Mickey Rebrushed review! Enjoy playing it!
