Core Keeper Gameplay

If you’re into sandbox survival games like Minecraft and Terraria, it will be fun with Core Keeper. It is a top-down sandbox adventure with survival, crafting, and exploration elements, which will keep you glued on for hours. There’s enough to discover and create in this procedurally generated world, solo or with friends. Now, let’s get into Core Keeper gameplay and find out what makes this a must-play game for any gamer.

Starting: Core Chamber

In Core Keeper, your adventure begins with an intriguing cutscene that sets up your player’s backstory. You find yourself in a procedurally generated network of caverns, starting in a location known as the Core chamber. This dark starter zone is filled with fundamental resources and enemies that torches or lanterns can enlighten. Wood is the first resource you’ll come across and is needed to create torches. Then, three devices are inside the Core chamber, symbolizing the game bosses and foreshadowing the coming challenges.

Exploration and Crafting

Core Keeper’s world is built of squares of dirt and other materials you can dig or mine to obtain resources and explore. The sparkling blocks of ore signal materials that will be useful in their unprocessed state. The resources you collect will be used to craft new tools, benches, and other items that open up new crafting possibilities. First among these is likely a furnace, which can smelt ores into weapons and armour.

One of the central points of Core Keeper is survival. Your character has a hunger bar that depletes over time, and to refill it, you need to find food. This can be done by finding food worldwide or planting and watering seeds using a hoe and watering can. Later, you can install sprinklers to water the crops automatically, which saves time. Fishing is another way to get food, featuring a fun rhythm minigame. You can further mix food into meals via a cooking pot, which fills hunger and gives health boosts and perks.

Combat and Boss Fights

While exploring, you stumble into different biomes, each with new resources and enemies. Clean chits of enemies are essential in this game since the death of enemies may not imply a clean kill. You’ll respawn at the Core, located in the starting area. Dress up, pick up your lost belongings from the tombstone where you died, and patch up.

Two of the most exciting things planned with Core Keeper are boss killing and raiding. The first three bosses are Glurch the Abominous Mass, a great orange blob of slimy cells; Ghorm the Devourer, a giant insectoid flesh creature; and The Hive Mother, its more minor fleshy brother that shoots acid.

The boss kills the drop items that let you activate more of the Core, which unlocks new items and bosses for it to spawn. At the very beginning of the game, the activation of the Core will destroy one wall that significantly limits your ability to explore. You will also get access to new biomes with an infinitely generated map.

Building and Customization

One great thing about Core Keeper is that you are given the liberty to play your way. There is something for everyone, be it bosses to fight, crafting, or base building. It features a skill system where you are awarded points for activities you do, thereby progressively improving your related skills. For instance, increased running makes your character faster, while mining improves your mining efficiency, and increased fighting builds your strength.

You can also choose a starting class while creating a character and receive a bonus toward certain skills with corresponding initial resources. Character customization is also fun because you can use vanity slots in your inventory to change your character’s look.

Multiplayer

Core Keeper is at its best in its multiplayer option, which lets up to eight players get into the action. You can host a server that any other player can drop into whenever they like. Whether working together for boss battles, building an impressive base, or just exploring caverns, multiplayer mode adds a new level of enjoyment to the game.
