Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is now out, with players across the world enjoying a good Call of Duty after a long while. The Black Ops 6 Campaign is nothing short of amazing, with its focus shifting from all-out war to the Action/Spy thriller worthy of the Black Ops name. The campaign was hyped before its launch and has landed smoothly, with fans enjoying the espionage and popcorn spy drama appeal. Read our Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Campaign Review and learn why it’s a worthy addition to the series and the Black Ops name tag.

Story & Setting

The Black Op 6 storyline is a direct sequel to Call of Duty Coldwar, with returning Russel Adler and the charismatic Frank Woods with a new returning list of characters, all adding to the spice and mix of drama to the series. The game is set against the backdrop of the Gulf War during the 90s, an era sparking the end of the Cold War and giving way to a new doctrine of powers and conflict in the Middle East. The player, along with the newly created team, takes on the emerging threat of the Pantheon. The growing militia group has invaded the inner circle of the CIA and is on the verge of creating a history-changing Bio-weapon.

The Black Ops 6 story is a mix of action-packed missions and popcorn spy drama, with the game shifting its focus away from the on-the-rails run-and-gun previous Call of Duty campaign types. The Black Ops 6 Campaign is on par with the Cold War and Ghost campaigns, with an approach focusing on the characters and their stories leading up to a bigger climax and chain of events.

Mission Design and Replay value

Black Ops 6 Campaign blows the previous Modern Warfare 3 campaign out of the box with ease. The mission design of BO6 is far more inclined towards providing the players with a mission impossible/spy-thriller gameplay than the previous run and gun missions of the series. Notably, the Casino Heist Mission offers players varied choices and different means of approach toward the target.

Coming as a shocker, the inclusion of a grand map during the Hunting Season mission, which features an open-world mission structure similar to the likes of the Madagascar mission in Uncharted 4, the player has the option to drive a jeep to different objectives throughout the map and take on the objectives as they see fit. Black Ops 6 Campaign offers much in the variety of replayability as a few mission offers alternative approaches and different methods to be utilized. The campaign’s clock-in time is roughly 7-8 hours, depending on the player’s pace.

List of Black Ops 6 Campaign Missions:

  • Bishop Takes Rook
  • Blood Feud
  • Most Wanted
  • Hunting Season
  • The Cradle
  • Emergence
  • High Rollers
  • Ground Control
  • Under The Radar
  • Separation Anxiety
  • Checkmate

Gameplay and mechanics

The campaign follows the same formula as the multiplayer, with gunplay feeling hard and robust and each shot feeling real and impactful. The omnimovement allows the player to sprint, vault, slide, and jump to traverse the environment. Headshots feel satisfying, with just a trigger pull being the difference between popping someone’s head or alerting nearby enemies. The game encourages stealth with levels designed around the mechanic, but going guns blazing is not frowned upon.

The Black Ops 6 campaign offers many features that allow the player to tackle missions with ease. It provides players with a wide range of weapons and equipment on the go, including an equipment wheel with goofy tech like an RCXD and even throwing knives that the player can take control of, like in the Batman Arkham games, and home in on their targets.

The weapons have seen a great overhaul, with the player needing to discard equipped weapons in order to obtain other weapons spread throughout the level, with ammo being scarce this time around. This invokes the feeling of creativity and DIY methods of dispatching enemies by all means necessary, keeping the player on their toes at all times.

Safehouse downtime and Easter Eggs

Black Ops 6 follows the trend of previous Black Ops titles and Cold War, with the inclusion of a safe house. In between missions, the player can take the downtime to collect info, interact with other characters, optimize loadout, and expand the safehouse with money collected during missions to expand their Ex-KGB hideout. The safehouse offers more than just a means of spending the downtime but also provides a fun little interactive environment with easter eggs spread throughout its entirety, which the player can discover at their own leisure.

Player Reviews and Feedback

On Steam, the bulk of the Black Ops 6 campaign review are positive, with over 75% of players in favour of the positive ratings and ranking the campaign separate from the multiplayer or zombie experience. More than 500 reviews of the campaign have been shared so far, with the majority being positive for its length and the quality of the campaign matching Black Ops standards. Most complaints about the game are unrelated to its quality, but there are frequent crashes for some players on PCs, and the campaign is not launching for some. Players have fixed the crashing issues by installing and re-installing the game or restarting their systems.

Conclusion

Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Campaign is definitely a worthy addition to the series and a welcome return to the roots of the Call of Duty campaigns, with its action-packed sequences and a popcorn take on the spy thriller genre. The plot is by all means a true Call of Duty plot reminiscent of old COD titles like the original MW, Black Ops 1&2, and even Ghosts with its pacing and narrative. Black Ops 6 has by far the best Call of Duty campaign in recent years, with its level of design exceeding expectations and providing a sense of fresh take on the COD Formula. We will rank Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Campaign a solid 8.5/10 based on its ingenuitive level design, gripping narrative, and robust gameplay mechanics, adding the fun side elements and player freedom during the missions.
