Biggest FC 26 Gameplay Changes

Another year, another FC title, same buzz, nothing’s changed? EA is back with another FC title, and this time with Zlatan Ibrahimovic as a cover star for the Ultimate Edition. Although this addition to the game is enough to drive FC or FIFA fans crazy, EA is trying hard to somehow make FC better again, after what they did with FC 25. After unveiling the official trailer for FC 26 six days ago, EA rolled out a video showcasing some of the biggest gameplay changes last night. Let’s explore what has changed for FC 26.

FC 26 New Gameplay Features

EA might have learned from its past mistakes, as this year, its main motive, based on community feedback and requests, is summed up in three words: make gameplay better. And it looks like they are listening. The new gameplay deep dive showcased the biggest changes, which include:

FC 26 new modes

Two Gameplay Modes: For the first time, online modes like Ultimate Teams and Clubs will have their own tailored gameplay preset, called Competitive Gameplay. Meanwhile, the offline modes, like the Manager and Player Career, will default to Authentic Gameplay

Competitive Gameplay: Focuses on fast, dynamic, and attacking football. It will reward players for their skilled timing and quick decision-making. This mode favoures speed and responsiveness over realism. It is designed to provide more control on the pitch and deliver a more consistent gameplay experience.

Authentic Gameplay: Unlike the above one, this is designed to deliver a simulation gameplay experience that feels more like how we see a real football game. It intends to capture the same pace and unpredictability that makes football great. It is still responsive but less fast than FUTs.

Smarter and Consistent Goalkeepers: In FC 26, goalkeepers are infused with a new level of deflection control and technical improvements to handling and decision making. This time, they are programmed with machine learning in thousands of different game scenarios to analyse and adjust their stance accordingly.

High Contrast Mode: Another big addition to the game is the new High Contrast Mode. You can turn this on or off in the Accessibility section. And the best part is that this mode is customizable, allowing you to adjust colors, saturation, shadows, and more.

Besides these new major gameplay changes in EA FC 26, more community-inspired features are listed below.

Does It Truly Innovate FC 26?

The new features mentioned above might excite veteran players and rookies as well. Some might still say that it’s the same game, with better graphics and new modes, but one can’t change football. EA can only focus on making the game feel better, immersive, and exciting, and that’s what they are trying to do this time, and recover the damage caused in the past titles, especially FC 25.

The question remains: does this truly innovate the game? Based on what EA has done and showcased so far, like ending the controversy with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and bringing him back, changing traditional trailers, bringing new features, and more, FC 26 looks promising. Fans are betting that it might outdo the previous FC titles. The rest will only be uncovered once the game releases.

“In the last few years, we’ve heard so much community feedback that when we patch the game during the live cycle, it makes Ultimate Team players happier,” explains FC 26 gameplay design director Kantcho Doskov. “And then players who are into the more realistic side of the game – namely, the Career Mode players – they say, now it’s less realistic. It’s more on the competitive side. We didn’t want that.”
