August Gaming News Roundup 2025
This August gaming news roundup includes ongoing stories that are ongoing. Meaning details may evolve as new updates emerge. The information here reflects everything confirmed or reported in the gaming industry throughout August 2025 and at the time of writing. Now, without further delay, here are the biggest gaming stories of August 2025.
1) Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Release
The highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake, MGS Delta, is finally here. Opening with positive reviews and a Metacritic score of 85, and positive feedback from legacy fans. Konami played it safe by keeping the story and core mechanics authentic to the original while enhancing visuals and mechanics using Unreal Engine 5.
Early feedback from many veteran fans is how closely Delta sticks to the original game. While the gameplay is much more refined than ever before, Delta is still plagued by its old-school level design. Though Konami could have very well implemented much bigger changes with expanded level designs and areas, they played super safe.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a nostalgic yet modernized return to one of the greatest stealth action games ever made.
2) GTA 6 Release is Closer Than Ever Before
May 26, 2026, is a date every gamer has remembered and dreamt of over and over again. With August nearing its end now, GTA 6’s Release is only 8 months away. The next Grand Theft Auto is the biggest game development in history. Set in the returning Vice City, this will be the first Grand Theft Auto game to include a playable female protagonist.
While Rockstar Games has slept on GTA 6 with no gameplay reveals or information. The world is buzzing more than ever before. The latest news suggests that a third GTA 6 trailer will be released between December 2025 and January 2026. Also, leaks suggest Rockstar is investing millions of dollars into the most realistic water physics in a video game ever, with fully funding a team of 20+ engineers to work on the water physics in GTA 6 alone.

3) The End of the Console War: Helldivers 2 on Xbox
One of the biggest surprises in August was the launch of Helldivers 2 on Xbox. August 26th marked the day when Helldivers 2 and Gears of War made the platform jump. Xbox users finally got their hands on Helldivers 2, while PlayStation got the legendary Gears of War Remake. This release marks a significant move away from a hardware-focused strategy and towards cross-platform gaming.

Reported to many credible sources in the gaming industry, Sony is now all hands on deck with the idea of shifting towards cross-platform gaming. This news is backed by the expansion of the multiplayer team at Sony, responsible for cross-platform strategy with Xbox and, seemingly, Nintendo.

This marks one of the biggest shifts in the gaming industry in 2025, with Xbox also making similar moves in terms of business strategy. For gamers, this means more accessibility and fewer walls between consoles. For the industry, it may finally signal the end of the traditional console war. (So, no more or very few console exclusive titles in the future)
4) Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Trailer Backlash

Activision just unlocked a new achievement for Call of Duty, and that’s called being humbled. The Black Ops 7 global reveal trailer garnered over just as many views as it did dislikes, currently sitting over 400K. The dislikes come straight from the fans who are frustrated with the series being repetitive, lacking originality, and sticking to the same corporate tactics.
Activision later came out with an apology but sticks strongly with the inclusion of the same goofy skins, multiplayer elements, and more. These are the signs of Call of Duty being hit by a major franchise fatigue. While Activision has promised new features and updates post-launch, the backlash shows players are demanding more than recycled ideas.

All in all, the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 trailer has become one of the most disliked video game trailers on YouTube, plus boosting the already popular Battlefield 6 Release.
5) Battlefield 6 Open Beta was a Massive Hit
EA and DICE finally look to be on track once more with their Battlefield series. Running the public beta for Battlefield 6 through two weekends in August 2025. Thousands flocked to try out the new Battlefield, and the turnout was massive, the biggest in EA and DICE’s history.
Over 521,000 players joined in the first week, with more than 400,000+ following the second open weekend. Battlefield 6 has garnered positive reviews from its diehard fanbase and newer fans alike, while there are a few issues. All the while, BF6 looks to take over the FPS genre and is easily treading over this year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 7
Overall, Battlefield 6 is one of the best Battlefield games in the series. Players have praised the gunplay, the multiplayer matches, the close appeal to realistic warfare, and a return to classic mechanics.
6) Journalist Chris Hansen Joins the Roblox Controversy
One of the most major gaming news stories that is constantly developing over time is the entire Roblox Controversy. If you are not up to date with the entire story, here’s a short rewind. Earlier this month, a famous Gaming YouTuber, Schlep, was banned from Roblox due to his vigilantism. What Schlep did was stage predator stings in-game and disclose them on YouTube. The tuber took X and called out the Ban, while the developer cited privacy violations for the game’s users.
The entire controversy escalated into an entire embargo with lawsuits, media, and public outrage involved. Now the well-known Crime Journalist, Chris Hansen, host of To Catch a Predator TV Series, is set to pull the curtain with Michael Schlep on Sexual Predators in Roblox. Hansen is set to highlight the issue and go into detail about the entire Roblox controversy in his upcoming documentary.
7) Subnautica 2 Delayed

An unfortunate gaming news this month was the sudden delay of Subnautica 2. The fans were left in shock as the original developer of the game, Unknown Worlds’ co-founder, was fired by Krafton. Unknown worlds were acquired by Krafton, a South Korean company, in 2021 for a total of $500 million.
Arguments go that everything was going well between the companies, but a few meetings in early 2025. Leading to a fallout between Subnautica’s developer and their bosses at Krafton, all due to some payout margins to employees.
This led to Krafton sacking the leadership at Unknown, with both sides filing lawsuits against each other. These unfortunate circumstances have led to the untimely delay of one of the most-awaited survival games, Subnautica 2. While Krafton claims the delay will help polish the game, many worry the takeover could strip the series of its creative identity. No new release date has been announced, leaving fans waiting in uncertainty.

8) Forza Horizon 6 Location leak before Tokyo Game Show
Just recently, an Australian Car import company posted a certain picture on social media. The post in question was of Playground Games dev scanning a Kei Car (Japanese origin Mini Cars). The original, which is now deleted, sparked widespread speculation about the location for the next Forza Horizon. The last entry in the Forza Series, Forza Horizon 5, took place in the vast landscape of Mexico.
Seemingly afterwards, the social media post with the Kei Car, Windows Central reported, internal documents suggest Playground games sets to reveal Forza Horizon 6 at the Tokyo Game Show 2025 in September. The earlier post, plus this leak, easily suggests that the next location for Horizon is indeed Japan. Given the Kei Car’s origin, this makes Tokyo Game Show 2025 a perfect spot for the game’s reveal.
