Warcraft fans! This isn’t gonna sound so good, but yes, the first two Warcraft games are being delisted from GOG. This might come as a shock to some as they won’t be able to access their favorites anymore. The GOG versions were truly loved by fans globally but now it’s the end of an era. Let me tell you, this is happening for a reason, so keep reading to find out when and why Warcraft games are being delisted from GOG.
When are Warcraft Games Being Delisted?
The first two Warcraft games: Warcraft: Orcs and Humans (1994) and Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness (1995) are being delisted from GOG on 13th December 2024. Both of these superb Warcraft games have been available on GOG since March 2019. Though these games will still be available on Battle.net, the GOG versions are being removed. The GOG versions have been dearly loved by Warcraft fans and this is turning out to be extremely sad for them.
Why are the Warcraft Games Being Delisted?
It seems like the classics are losing their value as their remasters are being expected. Blizzard, the creator, shadow-dropped on 13th November 2024 during its 30th-anniversary stream for the franchise. One reason could be that Blizzard didn’t want the older versions to compete with the sales of the remasters. More likely, it preferred not to keep selling the originals through a third-party platform.
Why are Fans Sad?
Warcraft: Orcs and Humans (1994) and Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness (1995) are being removed from GOG on 13th December 2024, but will still be sold directly by Blizzard and on battle.net. This can be a little comforting for fans, but it’s a fact that the GOG versions were considered superior as compared to the battle.net versions. Players have loved these iconic Warcraft games on GOG for ages and now it’s hard to let go. But you can still grab them from GOG before 13th December.
About the Warcraft Remaster
Fans were very surprised when Blizzard announced Warcraft Remastered Battle Chest. As much as they loved the classic version, they are equally excited for the remaster. These Warcraft remasters are set to replace the old ones and are coming with improved graphics and other new features. These games will also have the option to revert back to the original graphics, giving complete retro vibes. It will also support multiplayer, allowing all legacy custom maps to be compatible and playable.
