What started as a fun cop-and-chase style of game has now emerged as one of the most beloved multiplayer games. Yes, we are talking about the infamous “Among Us” that shook the crowds of casual gamers back in 2019! Since its inception, the game has had 2 traditional roles – Crewmates and Impostors. Although new roles are being added, the core remains the same. Among Us character options are multiple, with crewmates and impostors roles having different varieties.
In this guide, we have extensively presented all Among Us characters, their roles, and what they do in detail. If you’re a newcomer, it will be helpful to know more about character roles and types. If you’re a returning player, consider this the perfect time to brush up on your knowledge. After all, the game has changed quite a bit in the past few years.
Among Us Character Guide for Crewmates
In Among Us, crewmates are those characters which are playable by the vast majority of the players. Each game mode usually sees these little space aliens planning and deducing which one of them is the impostor. Crewmates are defined by their short height, stout figure, and different colors of spacesuits. You might’ve seen Red or Orange Among Us characters in videos getting trapped. Yes, these are the gullible crewmates.
This character role needs to communicate with fellow teammates and gather intel on who’s the real impostor among them. Hence, the name of the game. But, it’s not so simple. Crewmates also need to indulge their time into completing different tasks around the spaceship. The Crewmates in Among Us have several different extra roles or types, such as seen below.
Engineers
Engineers have the ability to vent through different rooms of the spaceship. This ability is called “Air Vent Space” and has a short cooldown once you get out of the vent. Also, engineers cannot stay in the vent for too long. This helps them scout different areas and take more risks due to an easy escape route available from the vents.
Scientists
Scientists in Among Us are characters who have the ability to view everyone on their screen, provided you have sufficient batteries. This skill allows the Scientist to be more cautious as they are watching over everyone constantly. Sadly, the low battery life means you need to be a little lucky in order to put this to good use. Spotting the impostor in their moment of action is a rare opportunity but only a Scientist has access to it.
Guardian Angel
As the name itself might give away, the Guardian Angel character in Among Us is one which is also called a “lifesaver”. Its ability Achille’s Heel can protect an ally from an impostor attack. This role can provide a second lifeline to an ally who got unfairly taken down early in the game. Guardian Angels provide a chosen ally with a shield which can take damage equal to 1 hit of the impostor.
Noisemaker
Noisemakers are the most obnoxious role in Among Us. They have an ability called “Noisy Death” which allows them to make some noise when an impostor stabs them. This noise can help alert nearby crewmates of their location. Sadly, this ability is only usable at the moment of death, making it a sour role. The best way to play Noisemaker is in a team where you can strategically die to reveal the impostor.
Tracker
The Tracker role in Among Us is pretty unique. It allows the Tracker to put a tracking device on any one of their crewmates. The tracking device will provide a constant location of the tagged crewmate. Much like the scientist, this is an opportunistic role, wherein luck matters a bit. You need to deduce from the start which crewmate is likely to be the impostor, and the correct guess can lead you to victory.
Detective
Detectives are a type of crewmate in Among Us that can investigate dead bodies of other crewmates. This helps them take notes of how they died, and their precise location. It also helps them track any nearby crewmates near the scene of death. Outside of notes, detectives can also interrogate other crewmates outside of meetings. Hence, they are living true to their name.
Among Us Character Guide for Impostors
The impostor role is where all the fun begins in Among Us. It is the notorious and mischievous killer hiding in plain sight as one of the crewmates. Depending on the game mode and lobby, there can be a single impostor or multiple impostors. The Impostor character always needs to sabotage the crewmates’ workings so they cannot fix the spaceship in time. And, do they do this in a peaceful way? Nah, simply stab and kill any crewmate you see in sight.
However, it’s not that easy to be a good impostor. As, you will need to participate in meetings and discussions after every killing. A skilled Impostor will divert any attention towards them by skillful manipulation and twisting of facts. Often, you can create false alibies to prove loyalty as a crewmate. Much like crewmates, there are several Impostor character types in Among Us. See them below!
Shapeshifter
The Shapeshifter has a unique ability to morph into any of the other crewmates skins. Yes, it sounds creepy and sure as hell looks creepy on the screen. When you are shapeshifted, an Unshift button can be seen that allows you to revert to the original form. While this helps you as an Impostor make up a story or give false alibis, it can also backfire. If the person you transformed into reports this fraud, it will expose you as a shapeshifter, and thus, an impostor.
Phantom
Playing as a Phantom is super fun in Among Us characters. They have a unique ability which allows them to become invisible for a specific period of time. Even when visible, Phantoms can get tracked by trackers, revealing their position. What’s more? Phantoms can also get revealed by Scientists and Trackers unique abilities. Hence, while it can be beneficial for killing enemies without being revealed, some drawbacks are also there.
Viper
The Viper character in Among Us was forged straight out of a horror movie! Their unique ability called “Acid Attack” allows Vipers to spew acid over a dead crewmate’s body, dissolving it in no time. This helps the impostor kill without leaving any traces behind. Still, when such a thing happens, people will be bound to get suspicious. Imagine a crewmate disappearing without any trace suddenly. Also, the acid takes some time before dissolving the body. Getting spotted by anyone during this process can mean the end for you.
