God of War Ragnarok has been making waves since its version for PC was released on 19th September. It’s true; this game is the bomb, and we just can’t keep our hands away. As lit is its gameplay mechanics and graphics, so are its heroes and villains. Here’s a detailed guide on all God of War Ragnarok characters you should know about.
1. Kratos
Kratos, the Greek God of War and the main character of the series, left his homeland to begin a new life in Midgard after it was destroyed. His peaceful life with his new family was disrupted when his wife died, and the Aesir god Baldur attacked their home on Odin’s orders. Kratos is still haunted by his past mistakes and wants to protect Atreus, his son, from the painful lessons he learned while fighting the Greek gods. He aims to avoid The Aesir, but that won’t be easy since Atreus is determined to find answers about his identity as Loki and his part in the upcoming war.
2. Atreus
Atreus, the son of Kratos and Faye, is getting stronger since the first game when Kratos starts taking him hunting. He is yet to discover his real worth as a demigod, half giant and half god. Atreus asks for answers about his part in the final war. Kratos dislikes his search about gods as he does not want Atreus to visit all those painful experiences of his own. He feels that his family members are at his mercy, and if it will be any consolation, he wants to act before Ragnarok heeds its doom to the Nine Realms.
3. Freya
Another is Freya. A Vanir Goddess and the Queen of the Valkyries, she is also Odin’s wife. In God of War Ragnarok, this lady will play a huge role, for Freya seeks revenge for Kratos killing her son. She comes back empowered with powerful magic and possibly with wings. In God of War Ragnarok, she becomes one of the primary antagonists along with Thor. She is no longer an ally to Kratos but an exceedingly sorrowful mother who seeks revenge for her son’s death.
4. Mimir
A revived head, Mimir now helps Kratos and Atreus as he serves them, sharing his knowledge and stories, and significantly assisting with warnings for sneak attacks. He is a mysterious sage and a friend as well. As a matter of fact, Mimir appears to be one of the known characters in God of War Ragnarok. His wisdom and jokes add richness to the fun of navigating through the world in this game.
5. Angrboda
Angrboda is one of the new God of War Ragnarok characters introduced in the reveal trailer. In Norse mythology, she is the mother of Fenrir, Jormungandr, and Hel, and she likely has a similar role in the game, making her an important character and one of the last living Giants in the God of War universe. Angrboda will make her first appearance in the main storyline of God of War Ragnarok. In the trailer, she tells Atreus that he “will get his answers soon enough—well, some of them,” indicating that she will help him understand what it means to be Loki.
6. Thor
Thor first appeared in the secret ending of God of War when Kratos and Atreus returned home from Jotunheim. Atreus had a vivid dream that felt like a vision of the future, showing Thor visiting their home in the Wildwoods. In God of War Ragnarok, Thor will be one of the main antagonists, and he has a more significant role in this sequel as both an enemy and a potential ally.
7. Tyr
Tyr is the Norse God of War and Thor’s half-brother. As an Aesir god, he desires peace among the nine realms and is well-liked wherever he goes. Odin accused him of plotting with the Giants and imprisoned him, leading many to believe he was dead in the first God of War. However, he appears in an official trailer for God of War Ragnarok. Tyr is set to play an important role in the upcoming war, as seen in the trailers where Kratos and Atreus find and rescue him from captivity to join their side.
8. Sindri
Sindri is Brok’s brother, who helped him create the Leviathan Axe that Kratos uses. He also assists Kratos and Atreus by upgrading their gear whenever they visit his shop. Along with his brother, Sindri will likely be involved in equipment-related features in Ragnarok. He was a standout character during the quieter moments of the first God of War and returns after teaming up with Brok at the end of the game.
9. Durlin
Durlin is a new character in God of War Ragnarok. He was once a rebel leader who formed an alliance with Laufey the Just. Together, they tried to lead a coup with the dwarves to resist the Aesir. He is a mysterious figure living in Svartalfheim and has a lot of knowledge that can help Kratos and Atreus understand the gods and Tyr better. He also has a unique pet, a mix of a squid and an octopus called Dinner.
10. Odin
Odin is the ruler of Asgard and the nine realms, the All-Father, and he is also Thor’s father. Believing in Ragnarok and the downfall of Asgard, he is searching for a way to prevent it and maintain peace across the realms. In God of War Ragnarok, Odin will finally appear, likely to stop Kratos from causing Ragnarok and the destruction of Asgard.
Summary
All God of War Ragnarok characters are just so powerful and enchanting. The way they look, the way they are projected, their storylines and their attacks, everything is amazing. And the best part is that many characters, both main and side, are returning, along with a host of new friends and enemies. So, go and play it. May the Norse be in your favour!
