We finally have our first look at the project that has been kept from us for a long time. We’re talking about Project Windless, which was revealed during the first State of Play event for 2026, last week. It’s a new open-world action RPG coming to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, possibly sometime in 2026. Inspired by the Korean fantasy series The Bird That Drinks Tears, a reveal trailer was showcased, giving us a glimpse into the world that developers have fallen in love with. Project Windless For PS5 and PS5 Pro
Developed by Krafton Montreal and published by Krafton, Project Windless is an action RPG game adaptation of the Korean fantasy novel series The Bird That Drinks Tears. The game world is big and full of wars and magic. You play as a mighty Rekon warrior who fights lots of enemies and builds a kingdom, as shown in a PlayStation State of Play trailer. For those who don’t know, Rekons are tall nomadic bird people, like 7-foot humanoid birds with huge strength, speed, and reach. They have feathers, strong bodies, and fight with dual swords or big weapons. Rekons are lone fighters but have deep feelings and fears, like water. In the game, you wake up in a cursed land and grow into a legend. No full name yet, but you feel real, not super invincible.
The Backstory
The game is not a full copy or an exact adaptation of the books. In fact, it takes place thousands of years before the main story in the novels. This is a mythic age when the land is broken into pieces. Four races fight each other: humans, Rekons, Nhaga, and Tokkebi. Tensions grow high, and big wars start across the continent. You help create legends that shape history. No one big evil rules; instead, it’s messy politics, alliances, and battles between groups. Your choices write the past that leads to the book’s world.
Story and Setting
The story happens in a huge war-torn world with storms, mountains, forests, and floating islands. Lands are split, and the races mentioned above clash over power. You journey to unite the broken land and start a new kingdom. As a Rekon warrior, you stand against big odds, make friends with other races, and fight in massive battles. Your actions change wars, alliances, and history. The main goal is to rise as a hero king and build a legend. Moreover, it’s a time of chaos where you forge your own path in a living world full of hidden stories and surprises.
Gameplay
Windless’ gameplay is brutal action combat where you hack through dozens or hundreds of enemies at once, as shown in the trailer. You can use speed, reach, and power as a Rekon, mix sword combos, dodges, and magic. Fights can feel chaotic and alive with Mass Technology. Additionally, you can explore the open world your way: climb, run, or fly over maps. Level up skills like fire spells or stealth, craft gear from drops, and build camps with allies. Make big choices on wars and friends that change the story.

Key features include a wide open world with no forced paths, finding secrets, and following side stories. It’s single-player but feels alive with smart crowds and big bosses.

- Combat Fun: Fight with swords, bows, magic spells, and bird powers. Mix attacks for combos.

Project Windless Release Date
There is no precise release date for this project yet. It has only been revealed via trailer and is still in development, so we can’t even say whether it will be released in 2026 or not. However, this RPG game has been in development for a long time now, and fans are hoping to receive at least the release date this year. And as for platforms, the game has only been announced for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. Although fans are expecting it to be re-revealed during the upcoming Xbox Showcase or Nintendo Direct, confirming more platforms, including PC as well. We don’t know anything for sure yet.
