Minecraft has stayed hugely popular among loyal fans and newcomers alike throughout the years, regularly topping most-played charts. However, the Game has had trouble maintaining a constant fan base for its spin-offs and various experiments with this. The latest Minecraft News is that Mojang announced that it will end its support for the PlayStation VR version of Minecraft in March 2025.
Minecraft on PlayStation VR
Minecraft has supported PlayStation VR since 2020, with constant updates to keep the player experience smooth and functional. Players can experience the entirety of Minecraft on their Virtual Reality headsets and be immersed in a Sandbox of unlimited possibilities and creative freedom. The PlayStation VR version of the game allowed players to operate in-game using either the Dual Shock controller or the PS Move motion controller.
The initial response to the Minecraft PlayStation VR was positive, with players enjoying the game and calling it an immersive experience with good resolutions and gameplay functionality. However, after just a few short years, in 2023, Sony announced the PS VR2, which started the fall from the grace of the original PS VR. Minecraft and PlayStation support for the PlayStation VR slowed down, bringing us to today’s unfortunate news.
Minecraft Ends PlayStation VR Support
In their latest Blog post, Mojang announced the end of support for the PlayStation VR version of Minecraft starting March 2025. The game will receive its final update for VR in March, ending its five-year stint on the platform. This ends support for the version that didn’t garner as much attention and fame as the original Minecraft on generic consoles and PCs. This doesn’t come as a surprise, as updates for the version and the PS VR were already at a slow crawl.
The Blog Post Stated:
“Our ability to support PlayStation VR has come to an end, and will no longer be supported in updates after March of 2025. After you receive the final update, you will still receive updates on your PlayStation and be able to play without PlayStation®VR. From this point on you can keep building in your worlds, and your Marketplace purchases (including Tokens) will continue to be available. You will no longer be able to use your PlayStation®VR with Minecraft as it will no longer be supported in the latest updates.”
Summary
This unfortunate news has put the final nail in the coffin for Minecraft on the PlayStation VR. But fans can still enjoy Minecraft and the constant support from the developers for all its other variants, the Bedrock and the Java Editions. Minecraft is still going strong, with active communities and players taking part in the game daily.
